A Doula for Theale Mothers
Birth and traditional postpartum support, in Theale and the villages along the M4 corridor.
New mothers often follow a pattern: the rest of life carries on at pace, while you're trying to find a slower rhythm inside it.
This is care that protects the slower rhythm.Working with mothers across Berkshire.
I'm a mother of two boys, based in Wiltshire. Theale and the surrounding villages are part of my coverage area, and I work with mothers across this stretch of West Berkshire.
Before training as a doula I'd spent six years teaching in secondary schools, with an earlier stretch as cabin crew. The early weeks after my first son arrived, and the loss of my own mother during those same weeks, set me on this path. The word matrescence - the developmental shift of becoming a mother - gave a name to what I'd lived. I trained as a doula soon after.
What the work looks like here.
Most Theale mothers give birth at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, with home birth a steady option for those who choose it. What no maternity team can fully give you, given the pressure the NHS now works under, is continuity. The same person knowing you over months and present in the weeks around the birth. That continuity is the heart of doula work.
Theale and the villages around it are full of families who've chosen a slightly quieter life within easy reach of London and Reading. The pull of that arrangement is real. The cost, in the postpartum weeks, can be that the village is geographically there but practically thin. Work has carried on around you, friends are commuting, family can be several hours away. Part of my work is being a steady professional substitute for the support that the practical day-to-day can't always offer.
Three ways to begin.
Where you start depends on what stage you're at and the care that feels right alongside you.

The Charting
Map. Navigate. Prepare. Evidence-based education designed to move you from uncertainty to clarity as you transition into parenthood.

Beyond the three packages.
