A Doula for Calne Mothers
Birth and traditional postpartum support, in Calne and across north Wiltshire.
Calne is one of those Wiltshire towns where everyone knows someone who's recently had a baby. The kind of place where the support of the village can really show up, when it's there to show up. Doula care fills in the parts the village can't always reach.
This is what fills the gaps.Just a short drive away.
Before training as a doula I'd spent six years in secondary schools, and worked as cabin crew before that. The early weeks after my first son arrived, and the death of my mother during those same weeks, set me on this path. The word matrescence - the developmental shift of becoming a mother - made sense of what I'd lived. I trained as a doula soon after.
Care that's close to home.
Most Calne mothers give birth at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, with home birth a steady option for those who plan one. What the system can't always give you, given how stretched the NHS now is, is continuity. The same person knowing you over months, present in the weeks before and after the birth. That continuity is what a doula brings.
Living so close, I work with mothers across Calne, the surrounding villages, and the wider stretch of north Wiltshire. The visits don't carry the rush of long drives or tight diaries. Most of the work happens in your home, on your timing, in the rhythm the early weeks actually need.
